On the Trail is my second illustration for the California Literary Review's weekly Breaking Bad recaps. Here we see Hank Schrader sitting sternly in his office, stewing in his suspicions, while Walt, Jesse, and Mike lurk just beyond the blinds. It may take some time for Hank to piece everything together, but with Mike now on his radar, we can guess that he'll likely find his way to Walt before the season ends.
As I mentioned in the last post, this gig is particularly challenging because my illustrations are due the same night as the new episodes air, and until AMC grants me pre-screening rights (never gonna happen), I'm in the dark with everyone else. To keep my concepts relevant, I try to focus on the big picture and draw on major themes for the season instead of guessing the details of upcoming episodes. The story lines are simply too intricate to take that sort of a gamble.
I have several other projects brewing currently, including a film poster, a new addition to the Blocks series, and an illustration for an album review. Check back for those, plus next week's illustration for Episode 3.
